Some Providence Academy families may have received unexpected or suspicious emails appearing to come from a Providence Academy email address in recent weeks. Several school email accounts were compromised and used to send phishing messages. Unfortunately, phishing attempts like these are seen in schools nationwide and are often more prevalent during the first few months of the school year. Fortunately, there are remedies and safeguards, which follow:
- All faculty and staff members are updating their passwords tomorrow.
- Be cautious with unexpected links or attachments, even if they appear to come from someone you know.
- Never share your password or multi-factor verification code (e.g. codes sent to your phone to verify you as a user).
- Never approve a login request you did not initiate.
- If an email contains an unusual or unexpected request, verify it directly with the sender before taking action.
- When in doubt, report the message rather than clicking.
