Providence Academy boasts a large and active choral music program. Singing opportunities are available to students in Lower, Middle and Upper School at Providence Academy.
The Cantate Choir is the youngest Providence Academy choral group, the includes 40 fourth and fifth grade students. This group has many opportunities to perform, including weekly school Masses and concerts, as well as larger community events at venues such as the Cathedral of St. Paul and at the Basilica of St. Mary.
Middle School Boys and Girls Choirs
More than 100 Middle School students sing in our Middle School Boys and Middle School Girls Choruses. Along with All School Choir Concerts, the Middle School singers also get an opportunity to perform with a full strings orchestra once a semester.
PA features two student led a cappella groups for both for men (Choir and Brimstone) and women (Bella Canta.) These ensembles are open to the greater PA student community, regardless of one’s enrollment in a choir class. These ensembles focus on more a cappella and pop music and do community service, such as singing for nursing home patients, in addition to performing in some of the school’s choir concerts.
Academy Chorale is the large high school mixed choir which includes roughly one third of the entire Upper School. They work hard to put on four concerts a year (Sacred Concert, Christmas Concert, All School Choir Concert, and Pops Concert). They regularly receive Superior Ratings at the highest level of difficulty at Minnesota State High School League Large Ensemble Competitions not only as a mixed ensemble, but also as men’s and women’s ensembles as the Academy Men’s and Academy Women’s Choruses.
Chamber Choir is the premier mixed ensemble at Providence Academy. Selected by audition, these students choose to attend extra rehearsals before school in order to sing choral music at the highest level. This group not only regularly receives Superior Ratings at MSHSL Large Ensemble Competitions, but in 2016 they were selected as a State Performing Honor Choir for the Minnesota Music Educators Association (MMEA) Convention. This group also sings for various community venues including, singing Christmas Carols at Cub Foods and the Mall of America Holiday Music Extravaganza, singing for nursing homes, and singing at local parishes.
