A Review of the Past Week in Providence Academy Athletics

Original Lions Coach Steps Down

Hal Tearse has announced his retirement as head coach of the Providence Academy Hockey program.  Tearse was the first head coach of the Lions and compiled a 118-101 record before retiring in 2013. After a three year hiatus, Tearse returned to the Lions bench in 2016 and picked up another 40 wins as the Lions head coach.

Hal has been a long time coach and coach educator through the USA Hockey Coach Education Program and early advocate of Positive Coaches Alliance. He has coached at every level from squirts (U10) through college to Tier 2 Juniors. Hal has travelled internationally to the IIHF Coaching Symposiums and USA Hockey National Team Camps.

Hal developed and produced coaching videos for youth hockey coaches that have been viewed over 200,000 times in the past fifteen years. He has been a tireless advocate for coach and player development for over 25 years and more recently player safety in all sports.

Tearse has resigned to focus on family and other activities and shares that he will miss teaching and mentoring the players the most upon his departure. Rest assured we have not seen the last of Hal Tearse at Providence Academy hockey games for the final quote he would like to share with the PA hockey community is, “Once a Lion always a Lion!”

Please thank Hal Tearse for the pioneer spirit he showed to start the Lions hockey program and for his fifteen years of service to Providence Academy.

Fall 2020 Athletic Registration is OPEN

Middle School and Upper School athletic registrations are open for the Fall! We are not requiring or asking for payment at this time, but it is important that we start collecting registrations so we know the number of participants we can expect for the Fall seasons. This information helps us dramatically with planning for the upcoming season. Registration will be closing on Friday, June 3.

Please follow this link: Athletic Registration to fill out your registration form. Feel free to reach out to Mr. Messmore with any questions at

Spring Varsity Letters and Multi-Sport Pins

Due to the cancelation of the Spring athletic season, all Seniors that were registrered for a spring sport and any underclassmen that were letter winners last year will receive spring varsity letter certificates.

This will be the same guidelines for the IMAC 2 and 3 sport athletic pins.
