LS Attendance Updates 2026-2027
Absences
To report a Lower School student’s absence or anticipated late arrival, use the Infinite Campus App by 8:20am or email .
We recognize that at times students must miss school. In order to minimize absences and their inevitable impact on students’ learning, we ask parents, whenever possible, to schedule appointments outside the academic day. We strongly request that families schedule vacations during our designated school breaks.
Once a student has accrued more than (9) absences or tardies during a trimester, a meeting may be required with the Lower School Director to develop a plan for the remainder of the year. The categories of absence which are determined by PA, are described as follows:
Excused or Approved Absences
Illness – A Lower School parent must use the Infinite Campus Parent App by 8:20 a.m. to confirm a student’s absence from school. A student who becomes ill during the day must see the School Nurse to be excused from school. The School Nurse will contact a parent to pick up an ill student.
Medical Appointments – If it becomes necessary to schedule an off-campus medical/dental appointment during the academic day, a parent must notify the Infinite Campus App by 8:20am. It is recommended that parents copy the LS teacher on all such notifications. Lower School students must be signed out in the Lower School Office by a parent or authorized adult. Regular absences for ongoing medical reasons are excusable with documentation from a medical provider.
Planned Absence – Parents must request the absence in the Infinite Campus App at least one week in advance of the date. The classroom teacher should be informed as well. The Lower School Director will determine whether the absence is excused.
Extended Absence
Extended absences from school for vacations, activities, etc. disrupt the learning of the student and often the class. Providence Academy does not condone regular absences from school for activities, sports, or vacations. Extended absences for reasons other than illness may be excused, but teachers are not required or expected to instruct or tutor students on missed content. Teachers will not provide lessons or work before the absence, and they are not required to provide detailed plans and/or learning resources for students who have missed school for vacations or other absences not related to illness, family needs, or school-sponsored activities.
In addition, teachers will not be expected to alter curricular plans, such as moving the presentation of new material, scheduling tests, or moving due dates for projects in order to accommodate such absences. Extended absences may result in the need for outside tutoring–i.e., tutoring not provided by the teacher. Often, extended or regular absences will cause a serious problem in the student’s academic development. Parents are asked to carefully consider the academic consequences that would develop from this absence. The student is responsible for making up all assignments, tests, quizzes, etc. missed while absent.
Unexcused Absence
Unexcused absences result from student violations of policy or denied requests for regular absences due to activities, excessive trips, etc. Depending on the circumstances, students who receive an unexcused absence may not be allowed to make up any of the work—tests, quizzes, homework assignments—due on the day they receive the unexcused absence. It is the task of the school to determine whether an absence is excused (for any reason) or unexcused; parents do not make this decision.
Tardiness to School
When a student comes to school after 8:20 A.M., he/she is considered tardy. Providence Academy does not condone tardiness to school or to individual classes. Tardy Lower School students must report to the Lower School Office for an admit slip. Parents should make every effort to ensure their children’s timely arrival to school. Please consider that tardiness provides an unproductive start to a student’s day and is disruptive to the class. Frequent tardiness sets a poor example and may create a habit of tardiness in your child.
