As we begin this new school year, and especially as we have some construction going on this fall, we offer detailed reminders for parents dropping off and pick up their students:
MORNINGS
- Our doors are unlocked at 7:30am and students can arrive after that time. All students should enter through the main doors and should never be dropped off at the East entrance for safety reasons. This year the East entrance is for faculty, staff and buses only. Please do not drop off in the East circle. This parking lot is very busy and for everyone’s safety we ask that you only use the front doors.
- Breakfast is available from 7:30-8:15am for students. PreK and Kindergarten students need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian for breakfast.
- Our parking lot, including Schmidt Lake Road in front of our campus, tends to be most congested between 8:05-8:20am each day. If you are able to arrive before 8:00am you should find that the lot is far less congested and you’ll have a more seamless drop off of your students.
AFTERNOONS
- When you arrive to pick up your child(ren) at the end of the day – did you know you can stay in your car and the Lower School teachers will walk your child to you? It is true! The lane along the curb is meant for just that. We ask that parents parked along the curb in the Pick Up Zone (see map) stay in their car at all times, so the line continues to move forward. LS classes (except PreK) will walk down the main walk and along the sidewalk to the East circle each day, escorted by their teacher. Students are dismissed at their cars.
- If you do need to exit your car, please park in the parking lot and walk to pick up your child from their teacher safely.
- The East Lot (marked on the attached map for Faculty and Staff) is not available for parents to drop off or pick up along the curb. This area serves as our school bus loading zone in mornings and afternoons, and for safety reasons cars cannot drive through this bus loading zone.
- Remember that it is never permitted to double-park either alongside other vehicles or park (or idle) behind vehicles that are parked in parking lot spaces. This poses both a traffic congestion issue and also a safety issue. Please keep moving and circle the lot if you are waiting for your student. Idling or parking prevents hundreds of other parents from being able to exit the lot in a timely fashion.
Please review the parking lot map for the proper flow of traffic in our parking lots, especially in afternoons.
One Important Note – the ring road that encircles the school will be closed due to construction traffic for this week and into next week. This temporarily limits your ability to exit campus by driving around the ring road, through the back (North) parking lot and out our far East drive. However, once this construction concludes, utilizing this drive will prove helpful to you in exiting campus at pickup time each afternoon.
