Boys Baseball • Record: 9-0
Varsity Baseball continued its undefeated season defeating Breck 11-1 on April 26th. The long ball was flying as Gabe Nathe and Romeo Sweet hit back-to-back home runs. Sweet would later add another home run to his day. Joe Spades, Henry Albert, and Nick Nathe each added two hits to the offensive attack. Gavin Wyant threw 3 scoreless innings, with Josh Wilson and Wrigley Ferrell finishing the victory.
Following the victory over Breck, the Lions defeated yet another conference opponent, taking down the Minnehaha Academy Redhawks for the second time this season. The Lions were led offensively by Gabe Nathe, Joe Berghult, Joe Spades and Nick Von Bank who all recorded extra base hits. Henry Albert also was instrumental in the win, recording two RBI’s to contribute to the team’s 11-1 mercy-rule victory. Wrigley Ferrell was excellent on the mound, pitching five innings, allowing three hits and recording eight punchouts.
Over the weekend, Providence moved to 9-0, as the team has outscored their opponents 96-16 for the season!
Providence delivered another strong performance against Mounds Park Academy. Caleb Cisewski started the mound pitching three innings. Will Von Bank finished the game by throwing two innings. The pitching staff combined for eight strikeouts in five innings. The hitting attack was led by leadoff hitter Gabe Nathe who had two hits and four runs batted in. Romeo Sweet and Joe Spades each knocked in a couple of runs. Logan Foster scored three runs for the Lions.
The winning ways continued for Providence with a strong showing on the road in St. Paul. Josh Wilson set the tone firing three innings and striking out six. Romeo Sweet, Logan Foster and Nick Von Bank finished the final four innings. The staff combined for 10 strikeouts with only two walks and three hits allowed. The hitting attack was led by Joe Spades, Henry Albert and Titus Johnson who each delivered multiple hits. Albert and Spades each had two RBI. Joe Berghult and Logan Foster each scored twice for PA. The Lions combined for 12 hits/six walks and an amazing 10 stolen bases.
Providence will face Blake this afternoon with a double header, an opportunity to clinch the team’s 2nd consecutive conference title.
Providence C Team also competed this weekend in a tournament facing Mound-Westonka, Watertown-Mayer and Minnetonka. Each game was a one run affair and capped by a victory over Minnetonka. The future of Lions Baseball looks very bright as our boys competed very well against much larger schools.
Clay Target
On April 25th, the team had their first week of competition scoring for the league, as the previous weeks were practice and reserve weeks. It was a challenging day, there was a stiff wind from the north, and it was causing the targets to fly erratically at times. The kids were able to make adjustments and scored pretty well considering the conditions.
Boys Golf
The Boys Varsity Golf team had a busy week with three 18 hole events.
The week started with the Catholic School Tournament hosted by Hill-Murray. The team avoided the storms, finishing in 4th place. Vince Illies was the team’s low scorer finishing with an 80.
On Tuesday, the team traveled to play Breck at Minneapolis Country Club. Breck is a strong, very experienced team and came out on top. However, the Lions played very well, led by Ben Freshwater with a four over par 76.
On Thursday, the varsity played in the Section Preview Tournament at Pebble Creek Golf Course. It was a very rainy, cold day but once again the boys played well, led by Magnus Hanson with a four over par 76.
The team finished in 3rd place, but just as important, all six players finished their round in tough conditions. Many teams had players who did not complete their round.
The JV Squad also had a nine hole match on Tuesday, defeating St. Paul Academy, with 7th grader Landon Miller the medalist of the match with a 42 at Les Bolstad Golf Course on the campus of the University of Minnesota.
Girls Golf
The Girls Golf Team took 2nd place in their pre-section invitational. Sofia Sandhu was the Lions medalist, taking 5th place overall in the Invitational.
Boys Lacrosse • Record: 2-5
Facing another conference opponent the team lost to The Blake School 14-10 on April 30th.
Most recently, the Lions competed against the Falcons of Robbinsdale Armstrong High and lost under wet and cold conditions to the Falcons, 14-10.
Girls Softball • Record: 8-4
Providence Academy delivered a commanding performance on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at Providence Academy, defeating Breck 9–5 in a conference softball matchup. The game was highlighted by a potent offensive display and a strong pitching effort.
The Providence Academy lineup was relentless, collecting 16 hits and scoring in every inning except the sixth and seventh. Stella Serie led the charge, going 4-for-5 with 2 RBIs and 3 runs scored, while Taylor Asche contributed 3 hits and 2 RBIs. Caroline Dierberger also had a standout game, driving in 4 runs with 3 hits, including a double. Other contributors included Lizzy Fahnlander (2-for-4), Emma O’Neil (1-for-1), and Abby Rynders (1-for-3, 1 RBI).
Erin Hemingway earned the win, pitching 6 innings, allowing 5 hits, 1 earned run, and striking out 4. Taylor Asche closed out the game with a perfect 1-inning performance, striking out 1. With this victory, Providence Academy improved to 5–1 on the season, showcasing both offensive depth and pitching strength.
On Wednesday, April 30, 2025, Providence Academy delivered a commanding performance against Minnehaha Academy, securing a 13–0 victory at the Neiman Sports Complex. The Lions dominated both offensively and defensively, concluding the game in five innings. Providence Academy set the tone early, scoring one run in the first inning and adding three more in the second. The third inning proved pivotal, with the Lions exploding for six runs, effectively putting the game out of reach. They capped their scoring with three additional runs in the fifth inning. The Lions amassed 14 hits and committed no errors, while Minnehaha Academy was held scoreless with only three hits.
Taylor Asche delivered a stellar performance, going 4-for-4 at the plate, including two home runs, and scoring four runs. Lucy Rymer contributed significantly with two hits, two runs scored, and an RBI. Stella Serie added two hits, three runs, and an RBI to the Lions’ tally. Caroline Dierberger notched a double and drove in a run, while Bridget Leuer, Elizabeth Ludlow, and Isabella Rampetsreiter each added an RBI.
On the mound, Taylor Asche was dominant, pitching a complete five-inning shutout. She allowed only three hits, issued two walks, and struck out seven batters, maintaining a perfect 0.00 ERA for the game. This decisive win underscores Providence Academy’s prowess as they continue their season in the IMAC conference.
On Friday, May 2, Providence Academy delivered a commanding 10-0 victory over Mounds Park Academy in a home game held at Providence Academy in Plymouth, MN. The Lions showcased a dominant performance both offensively and defensively, securing the win in seven innings. Providence Academy’s offense ignited in the second inning with two runs and erupted in the fourth with a six-run surge, followed by two additional runs in the sixth. Key contributors included Stella Serie and Erin Hemingway, each recording two hits and an RBI. Caroline Dierberger added a double, an RBI, and a run scored, while Isabella Rampetsreiter led with two RBIs. Lucy Rymer also made a significant impact, going 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored. On the mound, Taylor Asche delivered a stellar performance for Providence, pitching six shutout innings, allowing only three hits, and striking out two batters without issuing any walks. With this win, Providence Academy improved their season record, demonstrating strong form as they approach their postseason.
Providence Academy fell 6–2 to Rocori on Saturday at Becker High School in a non-conference softball matchup. Rocori capitalized on a two-run third inning and a decisive two-run seventh to secure the win. Providence Academy struggled to generate offense, managing only six hits and leaving four runners on base. Stella Serie led Providence Academy with a perfect 2-for-2 performance at the plate, including a double and a walk. Taylor Asche pitched the full game for Providence, allowing six runs on nine hits with three walks and six strikeouts.
Providence Academy secured a decisive 7–4 victory over Hibbing on Saturday. The Lions’ offense came alive early, plating five runs in the first inning and adding one more in the second to establish a commanding lead. Despite Hibbing’s late-game rally, Providence’s early cushion proved insurmountable. Providence Academy amassed 13 hits, with standout performances from Caroline Dierberger (3-for-4, 3B, RBI), Taylor Asche (2-for-4, 2B), and Lucy Rymer (2-for-4, 2 RBI). Rymer also showcased her speed with a stolen base. Erin Hemingway earned the win, delivering a complete game with eight strikeouts, allowing four hits, and surrendering two earned runs. Her performance was instrumental in keeping Hibbing’s offense at bay. Providence’s defense was flawless, committing no errors throughout the game, which complemented their offensive efforts.
Providence Academy suffered a 3–0 defeat to Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley in their final game Saturday at Becker High School. Taylor Asche took the loss for Providence Academy, pitching a complete game. She allowed four hits and three runs (one earned), with two walks and nine strikeouts. The Lions managed only four hits in the game. Notable performances came from Stella Serie, who went 2-for-3, and Erin Hemingway, who was 1-for-3.
