In a spirit of shamelessly ripping off the game show “Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?” Providence Academy will be holding monthly sessions, hosted by Fr. McGinnis, equipping parents to be conversant with their children on what they are learning in their religion or theology classes. We will cover questions such as:
- What does “the form and matter” of a sacrament mean?
- How should we understand the Book of Genesis in relation to modern science or the rest of the Bible?
- What, actually, is “The Church,” and why is it important?
- What should we make of the Four Last Things: Death, Judgment, Heaven, and Hell?
Think of it as akin to Catholicism 101. From non-Catholic parents who have questions to lifelong Catholics who might have gotten only a piecemeal picture of it all over the years; from Lower School Parents just getting started to Upper School parents who have been at this for a while, all are welcome. These monthly sessions are available to anyone interested in learning what your kids are learning and who wish to have intelligent engagement with your kids on these questions.
The first session will be in the Upper School Lecture Hall on Wednesday, October 21st from 7-8 PM, with optional discussion to follow. Light refreshments, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, will be available.
