A Message from Director of Athletics, Mr. Messmore
April 3, 2020

Dear Lions,

Every day during the school year I schedule time to shut my door to my office and I reflect on the blessings that the Lord has offered to me. One of the blessings that I am thankful for is having the opportunity to serve the PA student-athletes as your director of athletics. This role comes with its emotional ups and downs, whether it be deciding which amazing student-athlete should receive extra recognition for their accomplishments, watching a team and coach overachieve their goals from the start of the year, or telling a team that their season has come to an abrupt end. The emotions can run from one spectrum to the other, but to me, this is a blessing that I can share these experiences with you whether it be positive or negative. This situation we are experiencing is no different.

As the landscape of our academic settings and athletic seasons have changed, my heart goes out to our seniors who have looked forward to this moment to be a leader in their respected sport or any other activity that they have been a part of during their time at PA. During this time we need to lean on ‘HOPE’. This reminds me of Romans 5: 3-5 which states, “More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.”

As distance learning becomes a reality, so does distance teaching. This is new for everyone, so please do your part to be a great student. Do your part to help others be great students. Help your teachers out in any way possible. Let’s do what we can to give each other support as we continue to navigate what the rest of the year might look like.

You are all smart, strong and capable young people and please know that myself and all of the coaches are always here for you should you need help or support. It is my hope that as a community of resilient Lions we can come together to support one another during these uncertain times. I pray for the safety and well being of our students, parents, faculty, staff, alumni, and the entire PA community. As of today, the spring athletics seasons are still scheduled to begin on Monday, May 4. I anxiously await returning to competition as much as you do. Until then, be well, stay safe and as always, GO LIONS!

God Bless,

Mr. Daren E. Messmore
