The Providence Academy Athletic Department is pleased to announce the hiring of Phillip Robino as the new Head Boys Lacrosse Coach. Robino brings nine years of coaching experience, a strong background as a lacrosse player, and a passion for developing student-athletes both on and off the field.
Robino attended Blue Valley Northwest High School before continuing his education at the University of Kansas, where he played club lacrosse.
Robino began playing lacrosse at the age of six in Maryland and played primarily year-round throughout his youth and high school career. After graduating from Blue Valley Northwest, he continued his playing career at Kansas through the university’s club lacrosse program.
His coaching career began somewhat unexpectedly while living in Portland, Oregon. After striking up a conversation with a client’s child about lacrosse, Robino was asked if he had ever considered coaching. He decided to give it a try, beginning what has become a nine-year coaching career that has included both high school and travel club programs. Most recently, Robino served as the Varsity Offensive Coordinator at Edina High School.
As he begins his tenure at Providence Academy, Robino is focused on building a program centered on preparation, discipline, and personal development.
“My goal is to help these young men be prepared for what’s ahead by way of lacrosse,” Robino said. “My coaching motto has always been, ‘Success Through Preparation.’ The discipline and preparation you build on the lacrosse field will equip you to tackle any challenge life throws your way.”
Providence Academy Director of Athletics Daren Messmore is excited about the experience and leadership Robino will bring to the program.
“Phillip brings a tremendous amount of lacrosse knowledge and coaching experience to Providence Academy,” Messmore said. “More importantly, his philosophy of developing young men through preparation, discipline, and teamwork aligns extremely well with our mission and the values of Providence Academy. We are excited to welcome Phillip and his family to our community and look forward to the future of Providence Academy Boys Lacrosse under his leadership.”
Outside of lacrosse, Robino and his wife, Sara, are busy raising their nearly two-year-old son, Aaron.
