Orientation Day Reminders

With the first day of school a little over two weeks away, we are excited to have students and families back on campus. Before the first day of school, though, we look forward to hosting Orientations as follows:

Lower School Orientation for children and parents will be held on a drop-in basis:

  • Grades Kindergarten-5: Monday, August 26: 4:00-6:30 p.m. – Students are not required to wear uniforms during their Orientation visit, but should follow the Providence dress code of clean, neat, and modest.
  • Pre-K students: Wednesday, August 28: 8:30-10:15 a.m. – Please plan for your Pre-K student to wear his/her uniform on Orientation Day.

Middle School Orientation will be held on Monday, August 26. We ask that students arrive promptly at the appropriate time and be present for the duration. All students are required to be in uniform when attending orientation.

  • All Middle School Students (6th, 7th and 8th): Students will check in at the Statue of Mary in uniform between 8:30 and 8:45 a.m. Orientation will conclude at 12:00 p.m. Please bring your school supplies and any old lunch cards you may have at home to get your locker set up for the first day of school. There is time for locker organizing built into the schedule, so please arrive no earlier than 8:30 a.m.
  • Orientation Highlights: Meet and greet your Ultima Advisor and classmates, receive your schedule, learn your locker assignment, participate in ice breaker activities, enjoy a prayer service, hear an overview of all the Middle School happenings, and eat lunch – on the house!

Upper School Orientation will be held on Tuesday, August 27. All Upper School students are required to be in full uniform at Orientation. Detailed information about orientation will be forthcoming. Keep an eye out for a letter that should be arriving early this week from the Upper School Office. General details are as follows:

  • Parent Session for new and 9th grade parents: 8:30 a.m.-10:00 a.m.

August Message from the Headmaster

Dear Providence Academy Families,

It will be so good to be together with your children soon. We are eagerly preparing for and anticipating that exciting time! This e-Bulletin is chock-full of information that will be useful to your family as we begin the new school year. Additionally, an envelope of key forms that need to be completed and returned to school on or before the first day of school will be available for your pick up when you attend the All School BBQ and Uniform Sale this Wednesday, August 7. If you’re not able to attend, the envelopes will be available for pick-up near the Statue of Mary beginning Thursday, August 8, and will remain through Tuesday, August 13; any that remain will be mailed to families on Wednesday, August 14. We thank you in advance for your prompt attention to these important forms.

Happy Independence Day!

As we prepare to celebrate Independence Day, we wanted to share this patriotic video tribute from our archive. This throwback video features Navy SEAL paratroopers highlighting our PA choir as they sing the National Anthem before the 2013 homecoming game.

We celebrate this great nation’s founding, mindful that the great experiment in ordered liberty depends for its success on forming and educating the young. As Saint John Paul II taught:

The continuing success of American democracy depends on the degree to which each new generation, native-born and immigrant, makes its own the moral truths on which the Founding Fathers staked the future of your Republic. Respect for religious conviction played no small part in the birth and early development of the United States. Thus John Dickinson, Chairman of the Committee for the Declaration of Independence, said in 1776: “Our liberties do not depend on parchments or seals, but come from the King of Kings and the Lord of all the earth.” Indeed it may be asked whether the American democratic experiment would have been possible, or how well it will succeed in the future, without a deeply rooted vision of divine Providence over the individual and over the fate of nations.

Blessings to you and your families this Independence Day and always,

Todd R. Flanders
