Student Dismissal
Safer for students, simpler for families
Our new pickup process moves students directly from the building to their family's vehicle. Pre-K is dismissed at 2:45 PM, Lower School at 3:00 PM, and Middle and Upper School at 3:15 PM. Families picking up students across divisions also come at 3:15 PM.
Students never cross traffic
Children are released to a car that is already stopped at the curb, and they load on the passenger side only.
Stay in your car
No parking, no walking up to the door, no waiting in a crowd. Display your placard and stay behind the wheel.
It gets faster every day
The first week takes patience. Once families know their time and their lane, dismissal becomes second nature.
Find your time
When your family arrives
Your pickup time depends on the divisions your children are in, not on their individual grades. Find the one row that describes your family.
Pre-K
Pull up to the curb in the Playground Lot and step out to meet your child at Door 25.
Lower School only
All of your children are in Lower School. Line up along the front curb and students come to your car.
Multi-division families
You have children in Lower School and in Middle or Upper School. Come once and pick up everyone together.
Middle and Upper School only
No Lower School children. Students come out to cars lined up along the curb.
Placards go to Lower School families only. White if every one of your children is in Lower School, yellow if you also have a student in Middle or Upper School. Display it on your dashboard every day during dismissal. Families without a Lower School student do not receive a placard, including Pre-K only families and families with students in both Middle and Upper School.
2:45 PM
Pre-K at Door 25
Pre-K students are handed directly to a parent. Pull up to the curb in the Playground Lot, wait for your child to come out of Door 25, then step out of your car to meet them.
If you also have older students
Pre-K pickup at Door 25 is for your Pre-K student only. Older siblings are picked up in their own dismissal line at their own time.
Wait on the access road
Cars form a single line on the access road that wraps around the outside of the Front East Lot. A Dismissal Monitor will wave your group forward when there is room at the curb.
Pull into the curb queue
Follow the Monitors' direction and pull all the way forward along the front curb of the school. Stay in your car with your white placard on the dashboard.
Students are released to your car
Once the curb is full, students are dismissed by name to the car waiting for them. Children enter on the passenger side only.
Watch for the green sign
When every car in the queue has its students, a Monitor raises a green sign. That is your signal that the whole queue may leave.
If your student has not reached your car by the time the green sign goes up, exit with the rest of the queue and circle back around to rejoin the dismissal line.
Exit in an orderly line
Leave through the Front West Lot right turn only exit, or through the main exit. Please do not pull out before the green sign.
The next group moves up
As soon as the queue clears, the Monitors bring the next group of waiting cars in from the access road and the cycle repeats.
Driving the loop
The dismissal route, start to finish
Enter from Schmidt Lake Road, wait in line east of the Front East Lot, load along the front curb, then continue west and out either exit. One direction the whole way around, so no car has to turn across another.
Three rules that keep this safe
Three rules, no exceptions
3:15 to 3:25 PM
Dismissal for multi-division families
Multi-division students wait at the Statue of Mary to be dismissed with their siblings. Lower School students will be brought to the Statue of Mary by a teacher who will be with them until you arrive for pickup.
- Assigned teachers supervise that group from 3:15 PM to 3:25 PM.
- Older students collect their younger siblings there, then walk together to your car.
- Families in this group display the yellow placard and arrive at 3:15 PM.
3:15 PM
Middle and Upper School
Middle and Upper School students are dismissed at 3:15 PM to cars lined up along the curb.
- There are no Dismissal Monitors at this dismissal, so drivers and students take extra care.
- Pull forward along the curb and wait for your student to come to you.
- Passenger side loading only, the same as Lower School.
- Families with no Lower School children do not receive a placard, including families with students in both Middle and Upper School.
Parking
Please stay in the lanes
Dismissal only flows if the lots stay clear. Staff will be posted in the parking lots for the first several weeks to help.
- Families should not park in unauthorized areas. The Front West Lot is reserved for Upper School student parking.
- Use the marked waiting line rather than creating a second lane.
- Follow staff direction even when it differs from what you did last year.
- If you need to park and come into the building, use the Front East Lot.
Student drivers
Upper School students who drive themselves
Upper School students who drive to school park in the Front West Lot. They are dismissed at 3:15 PM and may go directly to their car.
If they have siblings in another division, they meet at the Statue of Mary first, then walk out to the car in the lot together.
