Dear Providence Academy Parents,
The Providence Academy Parent Association (PAPA) would like to thank all parents and volunteers who helped make the 2016-17 school year a great success! We appreciate all volunteers who gave of their time to support the school and the countless activities that were planned to enrich our children’s experiences! Below is division level recap of some of the PAPA activities enjoyed by our students and families this school year.
Maureen Flynn & Susan Marshall – Lower School PAPA Representatives:
Susan and Maureen along with numerous parent volunteers helped enrich the school year experience for Lower School students. The Fall Fun Fair was chaired by Stacey Brown and was once again, successful! Another big hit was the ice cream social during Homecoming week. We wrapped up Catholic Schools Week with our second Sock Hop chaired by Ginger Anzalone. Many students and parents dressed up and danced the night away! The Spring Lower School Family Service Day Project was filled with fun and happy hearts. Suzanne Varecka chaired the event and was assisted by many volunteers. We wrapped up the year with the Lower School End of Year Picnic. Many families enjoyed the beautiful sunshine while discussing how quickly the year went by.
Sandy Pawlyszyn – Middle School PAPA Representative:
PAPA supported and organized many events and activities within the Middle School this year. Highlights included raffle gifts for the Homecoming party, a Root Beer Float Bar during Catholic Schools Week, awards for the 8th Grade Banquet, and after school service projects. Thank you to all Middle School parents who volunteered your time and energy to help with these events. Also, this year PAPA created an ‘AIM for Parents’ workshop with the intent of helping new MS parents and 5th Grade parents with the transition to Middle School. This workshop will be offered in August for the first time! Please contact Mrs. Sandy Pawlyszyn by e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions.
Helen Healy – Upper School PAPA Representative:
PAPA’s two main Upper School events, the Father Daughter Dance, along with the Mother Son Game night, were a wonderful success. The Father Daughter Dance, under the coordination of Jena Marxer, began with Mass at St. Anne’s in Hamel followed by dinner and then everyone dancing the night away at the Medina Entertainment Center. The Mother Son event was held in the Providence Great Room. Nancy Ferreira and a group of Moms organized the games and food. Gift cards were donated for the boys to win throughout the night and just about everyone went home with a prize. This year, parents and staff of the school attended a workshop by a nationally renowned social media speaker, Josh Ochs. He is also the author of the book Safe, Smart and Social and will speak about digital citizenship at Providence this fall. Josh will speak to students in grades 5-12 during the school day and will offer a session for parents too. I have enjoyed being the Upper School Vice President and am happy to pass the baton to the very capable hands of Lisa Prom. I will continue serving the school as the PAPA President this coming school year. Thank you to all the wonderful volunteers that support our school like no other.
Heidi Happe – PAPA Secretary:
Parent Parties were another big success this school year! The following grades held parties: Pre-K, K, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 9th. Grades: 4, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11 did not have parent parties this year due to lack of volunteers. If you would like to consider hosting a parent party next school year, please let PAPA know. The role of the secretary is to take notes during the PAPA board meetings and distribute them to members. This was done monthly. Also, thank you cards for National Teacher Appreciation Day were sent out and appreciated by the school staff. The secretary also represents PAPA at IMAC. This is a vibrant group of other private school parent association members and we pick up a lot of good ideas from the other participating schools. We discussed how various school parent associations work, exchanged ideas, collaborated on new topics for upcoming meetings and of course promoted Providence Academy.
Kurt Landwehr – PAPA President:
I would like to thank all of the PAPA Board Members & Kurt Jaeger who is our Administrative liaison on the board for their dedicated service this year! The entire group worked very hard to support the school and provide an enriched experience for our children. I would also like to send a special thanks to Susan Marshall who completed her three-year term, and is transitioning off the board. Susan’s love of PA, energy, and passion will be missed! I have also completed my two-year term as PAPA President and will be passing the leadership position on to Helen Healy. Helen will bring tremendous energy and creativity to the position and the board will be in great hands!
I would also like to welcome our new board members: Ann Ryan, Diane Beauchamp and Lisa Prom. We thank them for answering the call and saying “yes” when asked to serve the school we all love so much!
Planning is underway for the 2018 Gala, so if you would like to get involved in helping with the event, or any volunteer positions, please go to the PA website and sign up using the Sign-up Genius. I hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable summer and we look forward to seeing everyone back at school in the fall!
