- Senior Parent College Night on Wednesday, September 18th: Senior parents are invited to attend this annual one hour presentation with the college counseling team. We will provide refreshments and discuss the year ahead and how you can best support your student in completing his or her college applications and deciding where to enroll.
- Fall senior check-in meetings consist of reviewing each senior’s list of colleges to which they intend to apply, essays/resume, deadlines for admission/scholarships, interviews, transcript requests, etc. Schedule your required meeting (all subsequent check-ins are optional!) with your college counselor by using their calendar links: Meet with Mrs. Hogan or Meet with Mr. Wolf
- The Common Application is Live: The Common Application opened for the 2024-2025 admissions year on August 1. Seniors should visit CommonApp.org to get started, and to be in touch with their assigned college counselor with questions. Please note that a few students will not need to use the Common Application; if there is any question about which type of application to use for your student’s colleges of interest, please let us know.
- Senior Parent Feedback Form for College Recommendation: We will also ask senior parents to complete the Parent Feedback (for their student’s college counselor) via Google Form. Parents will need to log in via their assigned parent account, navigate to “surveys from your school” to complete the survey, though the questions are available for preview prior to completing the official form in Naviance. If you need assistance logging into Naviance, please contact your student’s assigned college counselor.
- Fall College Essay Workshop: We invite seniors to register for our Fall College Essay Workshop, which will be held on Saturday, October 5 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. This workshop is intended to give students one additional opportunity to work extensively with PA college counselors and English faculty on college essays and supplement questions in a workshop format. As always, the college counselors are available throughout the summer and fall for essay assistance and feedback, but we expect that the Fall Essay Workshop might be helpful to students managing a large number of required essays and/or who were unable to attend Bootcamp. The registration fee for the Fall Essay Workshop will be $60 (registration will open in September).
- The College Process and Social Media: As PA seniors prepare to apply to colleges this fall, their responsible and strategic use of social media takes on additional importance. It is important to be both vigilant about the potential dangers of the technological world as well as mindful of how to use social media as a platform for self-marketing that can impress colleges and, later, potential employers. Besides reviewing and adhering to PA’s Social Media Policy in the PA Parent-Student Handbook, our messaging to students is that they should anticipate that admission officers may (or may not) seek to learn more about them or even connect with them via social media/online searches.
