A Message for Providence Athletes and Families
from Director of Athletics, Mr. Daren E. Messmore
April 24, 2020
Yesterday with the announcement that distant learning will be extended through the end of the 2019-2020 school year, the
I’m deeply saddened by the events that are taking place and I’m holding all of our Seniors close to my heart during this time. As we all reflect on what is happening, it seems as though we are walking through a maze and being redirected after every ten steps. As we navigate the ever-changing landscape that is before us, there is no time like the present to lean on scripture and prayer to Our Lord. So how do we get to where we are going? It’s pretty simple, just put one foot in front of the other and keep moving forward. In Matthew 7:7-8 it reads, “Ask, and it will be given you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.” Our Lord will navigate each of us, we just need to keep walking.
Our goals for Providence Athletics don’t change. I want to thank our coaches who have spent time developing programs and reaching out to our student athletes helping them develop mentally and physically. As a department we will continue to support all of you and create opportunities for training when we are given the green light to safely do so. As athletes, let’s “control what we can control,” because every day is a day we are closer to getting back. Let’s be Lion Strong and be ready for it!
I will have more information next week in regards to athletic varsity letters, awards and fall athletic registration. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions that you may have.
Be well and GO LIONS!
Mr. Daren E. Messmore
