Headmaster’s Notes
Todd R. Flanders
Senior Katie Finley and
junior Kit Chambers finished in the top 25 at the state cross country meet at
St. Olaf Saturday, earning all-state honors. Congratulations Ladies!
* * *
The Upper School band program tonight celebrates veterans
of the armed forces, with a special salute to the Air Force. Patriotic music,
beautifully done. In the Great Room at 7:00 p.m., free of charge for the whole
family. This performance will be professionally recorded and made available on
CD if at least 100 are pre-ordered. What a wonderful Christmas gift for
grandparents or veterans!
* * *
And speaking of Veterans’ Day observances, the Lower School
will offer a musical tribute program in the Great Room this Friday at 2:00, and
Middle and Upper Schools will be holding assemblies to learn about the special
heroism of those who earn Medals of Honor.
* * *
Within the next two weeks, parents of students in each of
the Lower, Middle, and Upper Schools will be receiving e-mailed surveys
employing “Survey Monkey” online technology. Now at the beginning of second
quarter, we will be asking for feedback on academic rigor, students’
time-on-task at home, extracurricular involvement, and more. Our goal is to get
a better snapshot, by grade level and by division, of successes and challenges
our students and families may be experiencing at this point in the school year.

Spring Gala Announcement
Mark your calendars for Saturday, April 26th,
for this year's Spring Gala! With the support of Providence families, we
raised over $200,000 last year. Many wonderful items were purchased for our
students such as: two busses, band and choir risers, library media, weight
room equipment, computers and much more! We are currently identifying the
needs of the school so we can all work together to achieve our goals.
100% of our proceeds will go toward the
items to be identified!
This year, we have hired Griffin Productions,
Jerry Seppala and Kelly Bellini. They are parents and are professional
fundraisers and event planners. They have donated a large portion of their
fee and a generous family came forward to cover the balance. We are very
excited to have their leadership and expertise in planning this fun event.
With the large task at hand, we are looking for
volunteers! There are three committees that are asking for your
participation: the auction committee, the theme/decor/food committee, and
the marketing and sales committee. The time commitment should be under two
hours per week. Please contact Kelly Bellini at (952) 237-0834 or
kelly@grseppala.com for more information and to sign up.

College Counselor's Corner
College Counselor's Corner
Ms. Kelly will be out all this week, November 5th through 12th,
traveling to Denmark to see her college student son. Staff in the Upper School
office will be happy to help with questions in her absence. If you have a
college emergency, speak with Mr. Ferdinandt.
Seniors
Most of you are busy working on applications while also attending to your
academics. Try to plan ahead so that you are not too rushed trying to meet
application deadlines. With rare exceptions, you need to complete the yellow
Application/Request for Transcript forms (found in the Upper School office) at
least two weeks before you require us to mail your recommendations and
transcripts. It is okay to complete the request form while you are still
working on your online portion of the application. If you have questions about
application processes or components, please schedule a meeting with Ms. Kelly.
College visitors will continue to be on campus throughout
the next weeks. If you are applying to a school, it is a good idea to stop by
when their admissions person is at Providence Academy. Check the daily bulletin
or the door at the College Counselors’ office for scheduled visits.
Juniors
College admissions visitors coming to Providence are eager to meet with
juniors. This is an easy way to learn about a college or university before
deciding to visit the campus. Take advantage of this resource. Check the
schedule in the daily bulletin or posted on the College Counseling Office door.
Sophomores
Next up for sophomore testing: sophomores have the option to take the
PLAN (pre-ACT) exam on Saturday, November 17th at Providence. We
strongly encourage you to use this opportunity to take the PLAN, a practice for
next year’s ACT. You need to submit a permission slip prior to November 12th
to be eligible to sit for the exam.
Freshmen
All freshmen will take the PLAN exam on Thursday, December 20th.
The PLAN is a pre-ACT exam administered to help familiarize students with
college entrance test content and format, to give them a feel for timed testing,
as well as to help them identify areas of academic strength and weakness.
College Visits
Please note that all college visits may be
viewed on the college visit calendar in Naviance/Family Connection. Members of
the Providence community may access this information by logging in as a guest
(password: lions) at:
https://connection.naviance.com/providenceacad.
