College Counselor's Corner
A hearty thanks goes out from Providence Academy to Mrs. Otten for the gift of her time and talents while she substituted for Mrs. Hogan.  Mrs. Hogan is officially back full-time from maternity and is looking forward to working with seniors in the final stretch of the college selection process, as well as with the juniors as they are embarking on this process.

Seniors
Scholarships, scholarships, scholarships!  Please note upcoming deadlines for local, regional, and national scholarships, such as the Maple Grove Lions Club Scholarship (2/24).   Scholarship information can be accessed through Naviance Family Connection—in the “Scholarships and Money” area, look for the “Scholarship List” tab and the “National Scholarship Search” tab.  They both have valuable information!

Also watch those college-specific financial aid deadlines, especially for the FAFSA (www.fafsa.ed.gov), CSS Profile (https://profileonline.collegeboard.com/prf/index.jsp), and individual financial aid forms (check your colleges’ websites).

Juniors
It is recommended that students take both the ACT with Writing and SAT Reasoning test at least once in the spring of the junior year.  For more information on registering for these exams, please visit the appropriate testing web sites: www.actstudent.org (ACT) and www.collegeboard.com (SAT).

If your spring break plans include visiting colleges, now would be a good time to start checking individual college websites for their calendars (so you can avoid visiting during their spring break, if possible) and registering for those visits.  Ideally, a visit will include an Information Session or interview with Admissions, campus tour, sitting in on a class and a meal in the cafeteria.  As always, the most important thing about campus visits is to be open minded and keep track of your own reactions to each place.

Remember that Naviance is a powerful tool for generating possible colleges to explore and viewing historical acceptance information.  If any parents need help accessing Naviance Family Connection, please contact Miss Erica Hanson in the Upper School Office.

College Visits
Save the date!  Our 2010 Spring College Fair will be held during the afternoon of Tuesday, April 20th.  Details forthcoming.
