College Visits
Coming back after the
Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, I give thanks for
the opportunity to live in a country where a life of
freedom and equality can be a dream-come-true. And
I give thanks also for being able to serve in a
school where “the content of character” matters and
makes a difference.

Do you know the term
used for regions of reduced precipitation that occur
on the downwind side of mountain ranges? Sixth
grader Charlie Hemler does. Last week he won the
Middle School geography bee with the correct answer,
“rain shadow.” Charlie will now take a written test
that will be submitted for entry in the state
geography bee. The top 100 scorers will compete to
determine a state champion on April 9th. Please
congratulate Charlie on a job well done and wish him
well on the written test!

associated with the misuse of technology, and effective parenting approaches and
strategies to keep your child safe. He will also address the “hot topics” in
the Middle School technology world including use of cell phones, texting, and
social networking communities. There will be a Q & A session following his

not been denied or withdrawn).
Financial Aid
Seniors are encouraged to apply for financial aid, merit-based and
need-based, and now is the time to begin filing the appropriate forms. The
majority of colleges and universities require the FAFSA (Free Application for
Federal Student Aid), while some require the CSS PROFILE (through College
Board). Both are accessible online;
www.fafsa.ed.gov and

college regarding deadlines for the FAFSA and CSS Profile (if required).

Seniors who are interested in applying for the Twin West scholarship should
be aware of the following procedures for submitting the applications. Students
should bring a completed application (with 5 copies - for a total of 6 copies of
the application) to Miss Hanson by the end of the school day on Monday, January
25. When the application is dropped off, Miss Hanson will have the student
complete the form needed to send a transcript as part of the application
package. Miss Hanson and Meg Otten will then bundle the applications with the
required transcript and recommendations. We will deliver all applications to
the Twin West Chamber of Commerce by Friday, January 29th.
