The Boys' Soccer program at Providence Academy offers
participation for students in grades 6-12. The school began with just a
middle school team and in the past three years, it has grown the program
into two teams ranging from Varsity to middle school. The soccer
program was one of the first sports’ at Providence to have a Varsity
program.
The varsity
program is registered with the Minnesota State High School League and the
team participates in the Minnesota Christian Athletic Association as their
primary conference. Over the course of the season, the varsity team plays
between 16-18 games, 7-8 within the conference and the remainder
non-conference. In a typical year, the team will schedule games against
non-conference opponents that include: Benilde St. Margaret, Orono,
Monticello, Holy Family and Blake will be added to that list this year.
As a team, we have gone from being the underdogs to
being on par with most of our opponents coupled wand had our first winning
season. Individually, over the past three years various individuals were
recognized as being among the top talents within state in the following
categories:
Scoring:
A Providence player was among the top 30 goal scorers in the state.
Steals: A Providence player led
the league in steals while nine were among the top 25 in the state.
Shots: A
Providence player was in the top 15 in the state.
In the past three
years, the team has succeeded in advancing into post–season play during each
of the seasons. As we continue to improve, our competition gets better thus
enhancing the overall quality of our teams and program.
