College Counseling
College Counseling is an integral part of Providence Academy's overall counseling program, designed to lead students to a deeper understanding of their individual talents, interests, and academic and vocational goals. In so doing, students gain important skills in self-reflection, communication, and decision-making while engaging in a process of discovery of a range of colleges that match and engage their interests. Parents, administrators, faculty, and counselors all encourage each student's aspirations while supporting the students in taking personal responsibility and initiative for the college selection process.
The college counseling program spans all four years, educating students (and their parents) extensively about preparing for college, completing college applications, and selecting a college. The degree of advising increases and becomes more specialized as students advance from grade nine to twelve, culminating in a personalized plan for college research, campus visits, testing, and summer enrichment activities. The college counselor communicates with students and families through letters and emails, school publications, and, most importantly, through individual meetings.
Representatives from over 160 colleges visit the Academy annually and the college counselor serves as an advocate for students, working directly with admission officers at colleges and universities to reinforce our reputation for excellence. The college counselor also prepares and sends specific school reports, detailed recommendations, transcripts, and other supporting documents in support of each student’s college admission and scholarship applications, helping students finalize their college choices each spring.
Since the first graduating class in 2005, Providence students have been admitted to over 200 different colleges and universities in over 40 states.
