Academic Counseling

The School Counselor(s) at Providence Academy provide(s) services to meet the academic, personal, social and emotional needs of students in grades 6-12.

There are 3 different levels of service provided:

Guidance Lessons

  • PACE (Providence Academy Character Education) classes monthly in grades 6-8
  • Future-Planning lessons in 9th & 10th grade
    • Career Exploration
    • Standardized Test Result interpretation
    • Grade Level transitions

Short-term Counseling (1-5 meetings, as needed for students in grades 6-12)

  • Personal counseling
    • Confidential environment
    • Concerns related to academic, social and emotional/personal life
  • Academic Advising
    • Assistance with course selection
    • Help with study skills
    • Goal-Setting
    • 4 year planning for High School
    • Help for students with academic struggles- Student Success Plans
    • Oversee the NHS peer tutoring Program
  • Crisis Intervention
    • Grief Counseling
    • Initial Drug/Alcohol Intervention- referral given
    • Personal Safety- referral given

Ongoing Care (as needed for students in Grades 6-12)

  • Student Accommodation Plans for students with documented disabilities
  • Maintain relationships with outside counselors/therapists
  • Primary student contact for matters related to scheduling/registration process
