Providence Parent Drives One Away at Annual Golf Classic

(September 11th, 2009) – During the Providence Academy annual Golf Classic, held at premier venue Rush Creek Golf Club in Maple Grove, parent Al Lampe of Medina drove off the links in a brand new car.  Many parents and Providence Academy community members came out for a day of golf and fundraising activities highlighted by a chance to win hole seven’s “Hole-In-One” grand prize BMW from Sears Auto Imports of Minnetonka.

Lower School parent Lampe approached his winning shot with the intention of “getting out of the way” to make room for the more experienced golfers in his foursome.  As his shot sailed toward the flagstick in a rather straight line Lampe said he was just glad it would make it on the green.  The ball bounced a few times hitting the stick and dropping into the cup.  Of the shot Lampe said, “It happened so quickly it took a moment to sink in.”

Cheers rose from teammates and spectators.  Even a few people enjoying Rush Creek’s outdoor terrace about a half mile from hole seven heard the commotion.  Lampe said he was so impressed with the response of event attendees with regard to his good fortune.  “Other players were excited and supportive,” he said, “It speaks volumes to the types of families connected with Providence Academy.”

Lampe shot his round as a member of one lucky foursome which included previous hole seven Ace and grand prize winner John Daugherty of Buffalo.  “To think it could happen again, and then to be part of the foursome was unbelievable,” said Daugherty, “When the ball went in Al jumped really high.  I ran over and gave him a high five.  I was so happy for him.”  The group of Lampe, Daugherty, Jamie Roux and Shawn Cheslock also took home the tournament win with an overall score of 16 under par.

Other tournament highlights included the mixed team division win by the foursome of Twelves and Zimmerman.  Said Providence High School parent Sally Twelves “It was a beautiful day and we had a fabulous time,” adding that the group was certainly blessed with some excellent shots.

The tournament was deemed a success by participants.  When asked if he’d continue to attend the annual event Lampe said, “I am proud to support Providence and its athletic programs. I will golf in the Classic as long as Providence continues to hold one.”  As for a Grand Prize repeat, Lampe said that he’s hoping only for another hole-in-one in his lifetime, but won’t hold out hope that a car will come with it!
