Providence Academy Golf Teams Post High Scores In State Tournament(June 8th, 2009) – This past week the Providence Academy Boys Golf Team shot to a fourth place finish during the State Class 1A finals at Pebble Creek.Team captain and graduating senior, Connor Christoff, also represented the Academy in the individual finals. Christoff was narrowly defeated vying for top prize in individual play, taking home a second place individual finish. As a team, the boys played impressive golf. The State Tournament participants included seniors Christoff and Zach Money, sophomore Christian Kennedy and freshmen Marshall Klizke and Winton Kingman. Also playing, and notably one of the youngest competitors in the field, was 7th grade student Scott Stankey. The Providence Academy Girls Golf Team sent a number of individual players to the Girls Class 1A State Golf tournament, also played at Pebble Creek. Players included senior Sarah Utz, juniors Chelsea Gross and Kathryn Kennedy, freshman Hailey Gross and 8th grade student Ashley Money. Four of the five girls placed in the individual top 25 in the state. Utz posted a second place finish overall, and rounded out a great year against strong competition. Chelsea Gross placed 9th, Kennedy finished in the top 15 and Money closed out the category rankings in the top 25. With a good number of returning players, this young talent looks to a bright future next spring when high school golf competition resumes.
