Superior and Excellent Ratings Earned by Providence Academy Musical Talent

(May 5th, 2009) – This past weekend, on the campus of Bethel University, five musical performance groups from Providence Academy performed, earning high ratings.  Four of the groups earned Superior Ratings in the state competition.  They included a flute duet, a clarinet duet, a snare drum solo and a tuba solo.  The fifth group, a flute quartet was awarded the rating of Excellent.

Mrs. Nicole Clark, Providence Academy Band Director, had many wonderful things to say about her students.  Clark focused on her students inspiring talent and fabulous technique.   Many are known musically for their ability to play high level pieces.  Clark said their positive attitudes provide the foundation for their superior talent.

The flute quartet of high school girls has been described as a wonderfully committed group.  “The girls are some of the hardest working and most dedicated young ladies I’ve had the pleasure of working with at Providence Academy.  They routinely come in on their own time before school to rehearse,” said Clark.

The youngest performers included a sophomore and a member of the freshman class.  Their attention to detail and determination to please the audience with every performance earned them high marks.

Judging was based on a number of guidelines but included a scrutinizing review of technique, rhythm and musical effect amongst others.  After the judging process completed participants received valuable critiques of their performances.  Players were also given their performance ratings and award medals to commemorate their experience.

State Band Competition participants from Providence Academy earned Excellent and Superior ratings at the May 2^nd event.
