Providence Academy Student Named National Merit Semifinalist(September 10th, 2008) – Providence Academy Senior Kristen Seligman was recently honored by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation as a National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist. Kristen, daughter of Terry and Diane Seligman of Medina, was named a semifinalist after achieving high scores on her junior year PSAT exam. To earn designation as a finalist, Seligman must complete a rigorous application process including a personalized recommendation from Providence High School Director, Kevin Ferdinandt. Students applying for finalist status must also post top marks on their SAT exams and are required to continue their preparations to enter college in the fall of 2009. Seligman will receive notification regarding her potential finalist status in February, 2009. At that time she will also receive notification about possible National Merit scholarships awarded in March. The NMSC plans to offer approximately 8,200 National Merit Scholarships of three types:
The National Merit Scholarship Corporation expects that slightly more than half of the finalists will win an award, though no single student will receive more than one scholarship offer from NMSC. Of her current semifinalist status Seligman said that is a real honor to be recognized.
