Semi-Annual Blood Drive A Success At Providence Academy

(April 8th, 2008)Providence Academy has a long standing relationship with the Memorial Blood Center in hosting blood drives at the school.   Middle School students typically tour the Memorial Blood Center or the Blood Mobile as part of their science studies.

Students, staff and parents recently participated in the spring blood drive campaign on campus. Providence National Honor Society members lead the charge and recruited numerous first time donors.  “It was great to have fifteen first time donors sign up to give,” said Maureen Murphy, Providence’s full-time nurse.  “One of the things that Memorial Blood Centers tries to instill in its donors is ‘a lifetime of giving’.  Young donors have the potential to give over many years and help save multiple lives.”

ClareRin George, a Providence junior, was one of the first time donors.  “I was a little scared,” admitted George, “But it’s really important to help make a difference.”  Simeon Wrobel, a senior at the Academy, shared George’s sentiments about making a difference.  After his donation he smiled when the assistant told him he had helped to save three lives.

About 25 units were collected from donors, and the drive was deemed a success by organizers.  “Our next drive with Memorial Blood Centers will be held on Monday, November 3rd from 12:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and is open to the public.  We are looking forward to increasing our donations,” said Murphy, “Every donation is a gift.”  More information regarding future Providence Academy blood drives is available at (763) 258-2507.

ClareRin George, a Providence Academy junior from Eden Prairie, gave her first blood donation during the Memorial Blood Center’s spring drive held on campus.
