Providence Student Gobbles Up Turkey Coloring Contests(December 20th, 2007) – Providence Academy kindergarten student, Audra Kaczmarek, has found her media as an artist. It’s turkeys! Announced this Thursday, Kaczmarek took 2nd place in the Star Tribune’s annual turkey coloring contest. Kaczmarek, who lives in Maple Grove, is no stranger to the contest. Previously entering in the 0-4 year-old age category, Kaczmarek brought home a 2nd place finish with her first entry in 2005, and dished up top honors in 2006 with a first place win. Kaczmarek’s 2007 entry was her first in the older age bracket of 5-8 year-olds. Using materials like paper plates, markers, buttons and a little bit of purple fur from an old pair of pajamas, she brought her design to life. “It was a four day project,” said Monica Kaczmarek, Audra’s mom, “She even made a little cornucopia lamp out of modeling clay to add to the picture. All the ideas were hers.” When asked about her award Kaczmarek noted that it was really neat to win again, “I got another turkey and a gift card,” she said in reference to the official plush turkey and the $50.00 Target gift card awarded to the contest winners. Kaczmarek said she would let her mom use her gift card to buy groceries at Super Target and in exchange, “my mom will give me $50.00 cash.” Said Kaczmarek’s mom, “She’s a saver. She wants to put the money in the bank.” She’s not sure about the innovative twists her 2008 turkey poster will have, but the contest can definitely expect another entry from Kaczmarek. The family rallies behind her each year, “It has really become a family tradition,” said Kaczmarek’s mom proudly, “She will absolutely enter again.” |
