A Handful of Help(October 9, 2007) –The Lower School Students at Providence Academy have been on the lookout for spare change. Kindergarten through fifth grade students recently collected money to give to the Schoenstatt Mission in the Dominican Republic. Students were asked to shake their piggy banks and bring a handful of coins to fill Penny Power buckets. The classroom buckets were combined and presented to Sister M. Deanne Niehaus, a representative from the Schoenstatt Mission, at a special Mass on October 3rd. A grand total of $1,600.22 was raised. The donation will be used to feed and educate children in the Dominican Republic. Students at Providence Academy learn about charitable work through the Core Virtues Program and focus on ten different virtues each year. Their teachers introduce a new value each month through stories, artwork and projects. The students are taught to be part of the world community by doing charitable works and helping others in need.
Mrs. Nancy Galgano, Lower School Director presents Sister Deanne Niehaus with the check from the Penny Power Campaign.
