Two Providence Seniors Granted Appointments to Military Academies

Providence Academy is proud to announce that two members of the class of 2007, Maxwell “Max” Hendrickson and Alexis Tamosuinas have been granted appointments to two of the nation’s military Academies.

Hendrickson, the son of Janet Hendrickson of Wayzata will attend The United States Military Academy at West Point.  Candidates seeking admission to West Point must receive a nomination from a member of Congress or from the Department of the Army and be evaluated on their academic, physical and leadership potential.  West Point accepts roughly 10 to 15 percent of its 10,000 plus applications each year, and its cadets represent all fifty states.

Tamosuinas, daughter of Darrell and Linda Tamosuinas of Wayzata will attend the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado.  The United States Air Force Academy typically accepts approximately 16 percent of their candidates, and approximately 18 percent of their incoming students are female.  Candidates for admission to the Academy must also obtain the appointment of a United States Senator, Congressman or the Vice President.

“It is a tremendous honor that two members of the Class of 2007 were granted appointments to our nation’s military academies, especially since the academies are counted among the most selective post-secondary institutions in the United States - keeping company Harvard, Yale and Princeton,” said Sarah Hogan, the Academy’s College Counselor.  “The ‘academic composite’ (high school rigor and performance) counts for 60 percent of the overall selection composite of a United States Air Force Academy applicant, which shows that students at Providence receive the type of rigorous academic preparation needed to be compete nationally with students of the highest caliber in academics and extra-curricular activities and athletics, not to mention those demonstrating the strongest leadership potential.”
