Providence Academy's New Wing Opens

Providence Academy’s new 94,000 square feet addition is now open for the 2006-07 school year. 

The addition, designed by Pope Associates and constructed by Stahl Construction, includes 16 new High School classrooms, new gym and locker room facilities, new science and technology laboratory classrooms, and new music, art and band spaces.  A media center and Upper School Administrative Offices are also part of the expansion.  Construction costs totaled nearly $13 million.

The new addition enables Providence to grow its enrollment to approximately 800 students during the 2006-07 school year.  The Academy’s eventual goal is an enrollment of 1,000 to 1,100 students in grades Pre-Kindergarten through twelfth. 

Providence Academy’s previous building expansion was the recipient of the “Best Institutional Building/School” award by Masonry Construction of Illinois in 2003.  The Academy was also nominated for a 2002 National Association of Industrial and Office Properties (NAIOP) Award of Excellence in the Special Purpose Category. 

Photo Captions:  The Academy’s new wing will allow the Academy to further hone the quality of both its academic and extra-curricular programs.  The photograph on the top depicts a portion of the Academy’s new double gym, which will provide the Academy’s athletic teams with more practice space and also serve as a classroom for some of the Academy’s physical education classes.  The bottom photograph depicts the marble floor in the new third floor atrium leading to the Upper School biology lab and Upper School Administration Offices.
