Providence Academy Winner Receives Subsection Triple "A" Award

(January 19, 2010) – Providence Academy senior Kathryn Kennedy has received a subsection Triple “A” Award. Now, she is one of four finalists in the school’s section (out of the eight sections in the state of Minnesota) competing for the coveted honor of being named the Minnesota State High School League’s Triple “A” winner.

The Triple “A” Award is a program of the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) that acknowledges a high school senior’s excellence in academics, arts, and athletics.  This is the highest award given by the MSHSL.

Bound for Dartmouth College next fall, Kennedy, a Medina-native, has a the well-rounded resume of achievements.   Included in this list is active participation in Providence’s Academy Chorale and Symphonic Band, as well as an established role as a captain for the school’s varsity tennis team. She’ll serve as the captain for the varsity girl’s golf team for the first time this spring.

Not only has Kennedy caught the eye of the MSHSL, but she also impressed the people at Plymouth Magazine so much that they featured her on the cover of their August 2009 Prep Elite Issue. In this issue, she received praise and acknowledgement for her achievements in school and on the golf course, in addition to her balancing act between other extra-curricular activities and a job.

When congratulated for her recognition in the Prep Elite Issue of Plymouth Magazine and for her progression to the next level in the Triple “A” Award process, Kennedy said, “This has shown me that all my work has paid off because I’ve been working so hard my entire high school career both academically and athletically. To see it all come to this type of recognition is a true honor.”

Kennedy described the pride she felt for earning this recognition and the pride she felt it would bring to her school if she were named the Triple “A” Award winner. “I’d be very excited to get that type of honor. It would be a great precedent for our school and to get our name out there.”

Regional winners for the Triple “A” Award will be recognized during the Boys State Basketball Tournament in March. At this time, one girl and one boy from a Class A school will be awarded a four-year $1,000 scholarship, applicable toward college expenses.

Kathryn Kennedy, from Providence Academy, received a subsection Triple “A” Award. She is one of four finalists in Section 4A competing against seven other sections for the Minnesota State High School League’s coveted Triple “A” award.
