Providence Academy
Recognizes Its First National Merit Finalist

Providence Academy senior Christopher Byrne, son of Dennis and Bonita Byrne of Maple Grove, has been recognized as a finalist in the 2005 National Merit Scholarship Program.

Bryne joins a pool of more than 15,000 National Merit Scholarship Finalists, from which 8,200 Merit scholarship winners will be selected.  Scholarships will be awarded between March and June 2005.

Scholarship winners are chosen from the Finalist group, based on their abilities, skills, and accomplishments.  Program selectors evaluate candidates based on their academic records, information about the school's curricula and grading system, two sets of test scores, a school official's written recommendation, information about the student's activities and leadership, and the Finalist's own essay.

Byrne, a member of Providence Academy’s inaugural graduating class, is the school’s first National Merit Finalist.
