Seven Providence Academy students from the Class of 2010 were awarded
scholarships totaling $5,000 through The TwinWest Foundation.

Academy Wins 4th Place at State Science Olympiad Tournament
Twenty-nine teams from middle schools all over
Minnesota competed in twenty-three different science events at the state
tournament for Science Olympiad. The team from Providence, made up of
twenty-seven students in grades 6 through 9, vigorously competed to achieve a
4th place overall finish.

Providence Academy senior, Kathryn Kennedy, recently received a
subsection Triple “A” award enabling her to be in the eight-subsection
competition for the state level award.

Teacher Joey Lahr Inspires Students' Spanish Speaking Confidence
Providence
Academy Spanish language teacher, Joey Lahr, always looks for ways to improve
the conversational abilities and confidence in public speaking of her students.
In one such classroom activity students are asked to bring in a sentimental
object of their choosing, describe the object and its meaning in a ten minute
Spanish presentation and answer peer and instructor directed questions.

Sullivan Wins First Individual State Title for Providence Academy in Girls
Tennis
It was a defining moment for
Providence Academy athletics on Friday, October 30th when sophomore
Elena Sullivan won the State Championship in girls tennis singles. The win
marked the first individual state title in the history of the Academy.

Freedom Pointe Hosts
Providence Academy Adopt-A-Grandparent Program
This week Providence Academy students began an
Adopt-A-Grandparent program with Freedom Point Assisted Living facility in
Minnetonka, MN. The Academy’s 6th grade students made their first of
multiple planned visits to Freedom Pointe where they were introduced to their
“grandparent” with whom they spent an afternoon.

Athleticism and Heart: Conference Champions and
Huts for
Homes
Providence Academy’s
Varsity Football team won the Minnesota Christian Athletic Association (MCAA)
conference championship with a 42-3 victory over Lester Prairie/Holy Trinity
High Schools. The players and coaches also have reason to take pride for
their activities off the field. The team participates in a mission known as the
Huts for Homes Project, which is run through the International Foundation.

book on cast painting titled Cast Painting Using the Sight-Size Approach.

winning illustrator and author Loren Long to their Plymouth campus. Long
brought his new character Otis the tractor to life in a charming presentation
which included a private reading and a special, on-the-spot, original Otis

Students Earn TwinWest Chamber of Commerce Scholarships
Providence Academy Class of 2009 graduate Meghan Mazza was
awarded a Designated Scholarship through The TwinWest Foundation. Caleb
Scherber of Rogers who was honored with a Partner Scholarship and Anjelica
Boemer of Medina won a Cornerstone Scholarship.

members ran to earn money for New Life Family Services.

Senior Track Star Commits to University of MN
In late April, Providence Academy senior Leighton Lerum of
Plymouth committed to attend the University of Minnesota. The Academy’s 2008-09
female MSHSL Triple “A” Award winner and All-State athlete was recruited to run
for University of Minnesota track.

Superior and Excellent Ratings
Earned by Providence Academy Musical Talent
This past
weekend, on the campus of Bethel University, five musical performance groups
from Providence Academy performed, earning high ratings. Four of the groups
earned Superior Ratings in the state competition.

Visits Providence Academy
The unmistakably jolly St. Nick made a seasonal appearance
on the Providence Academy campus this week. Santa’s visit brought joy to the

Academy 4th grade student, Edmund Hoes, was honored by the Plymouth
Fire Department for his fire prevention poster “Unplug a Wire to Prevent a
Fire.” November is National Fire Prevention Month and the Plymouth FD sponsored
its annual Fire Prevention Poster Contest.

Honored As Top 50 Nationwide for the Fifth Year
Recently the
National Catholic High School Honor Roll named Providence Academy to its list of
the Nation’s Top 50 Catholic High Schools for the fifth year running. The Honor
Roll award was established in 2004 to assess Catholic secondary schools in the
categories of academic excellence, Catholic identity and civic education.

grade year learning about woodworking. They practice using all the tools
available, work on safety rules, and build exciting individual projects.

Providence Academy Students Named AP Scholars
Anne Gottwalt, Scott Walls,
and Mary Cummins, all members of the Class of 2008, were named the Academy’s
first ever AP Scholars with Distinction. AP Scholars with Honors were
Katie Finley, Michael George, Michael Offerman, and Jimmy Simonse. Lars Gilyard,
Matt Villaume, Natasha Topoluk, Jaclyn Walker and Kristen Seligman received the
distinction of AP Scholar.

Flanders Meets Radio Personality, Dr. William Bennett
Dr. William J. Bennett was recently in the Twin Cities to
meet with area educators to discuss his books including a textbook on American
history. The text, entitled America: The Last Best Hope, is used in the

the young Providence Academy football program is achieving early success with a

placed seventh overall in individual competition at the City of the Lakes
Chapter Math Counts Tournament.

The Memorial Blood Center recently hosted their spring
blood drive at Providence Academy. Fifteen new donors joined many regulars
in giving blood. The next drive is scheduled for Monday, November 3rd from
12:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

was recently chosen from a pool of finalists representing 56 schools in the
region as the female Region 4A Triple “A” Award winner for the 2007-08 school
year. A total of eight female and eight male athletes in Class A are honored as
Regional winners. This is the highest award granted by the Minnesota State High
School League.

tenor saxophone at Orchestra Hall as a member of the MMEA All-State Symphonic
Band. His award is the first of its kind for a music student from Providence
