indoor athletics.)

College Counselor's Corner
AP Exams
Students approved to take AP Exams must register no later than Thursday,
April 11th. Students received all materials (including the registration form,
PA Exam information, and the Advanced Placement Bulletin for Students and
Parents from the College Board) last Thursday in school and via email. Please
direct any questions regarding AP Exams to Mr. Tiffany, Academic Dean, or to
Mrs. Hogan, College Counselor.
Fourth Annual Providence Academy College Day
The Providence Academy College Day will take place on Tuesday, April 20th.
The program will follow a similar format to last year’s, since it will include
special sessions with the college representatives on a variety of
college-related topics, plus the college fair portion of the program. In
addition to providing our students with information on various colleges and
universities, our program provides the opportunity for college representatives
to learn more about Providence from students, faculty/staff, and parents. All
Upper School students (and parents) are invited to attend the college fair
portion. For any parents interested in volunteering to help with this event,
please contact Mrs. Hogan by phone at (763) 258-5508 or by email at
sarah.hogan@providenceacademy.org.
For those interested in participating in an online/virtual
college fair over spring break (March 24th and 25th), please visit
www.collegeweeklive.com.
Seniors
Please continue to update Mrs. Hogan on your college acceptances and
scholarships. Speaking of scholarships, Mrs. Hogan offered two scholarship
workshops (before and after school) to seniors. Students who were unable to
attend but are interested in searching for more scholarship opportunities should
contact Mrs. Hogan directly.
We will begin a tradition this year of updating the College
Bulletin Board outside the college counseling office that will display college
acceptances and where seniors plan to attend, starting after Spring Break.
Remember, seniors, the message about avoiding senior slide! Enjoy your senior
year, but be mindful that your college future still rests on successful
completion of your Providence career.
Juniors
For those students who did not take the February (or December) ACT exam,
Mrs. Hogan recommends that you register for the April 10th or the
June 12th ACT exam as soon as possible. Providence Academy is a test
site for the June 12th Exam, but registration is through ACT (not
Providence!) and is on a first-come-first-serve basis. Juniors should also take
the SAT exam at least once before senior year. The SAT exam will be administered
on May 1st and June 5th. For registration information,
including registration deadlines, please refer to
www.collegeboard.com or
www.actstudent.org. Looking for more test prep options? Contact the college
counseling office for suggestions.
Before spring break juniors will participate in an
additional college counseling seminars, including an in-class exercise focusing
on developing a portfolio for college. Mrs. Hogan will resume individual
meetings with juniors after spring break to discuss preliminary college choices
and to answer specific college questions. Parents are invited and encouraged to
attend all subsequent meetings. Meeting dates/times will be sent home with
juniors after Spring Break. As always, please feel free to check with Ms.
Hanson in the Upper School Office if you are unsure of your meeting date/time.
Sophomores
Before spring break, sophomores will have an in-class exercise using our
web-based college counseling tool, Naviance/Family Connection. Students will be
given an introduction to using this tool to begin their college searches, begin
planning college visits, and gathering information before the April 20, 2010
College Day program.
