Many happenings at PA to announce this
week…
Plymouth’s
Noodles & Company will donate a percentage of sales, tonight and
tomorrow night (4:00 to 8:00 p.m.), to Providence Academy. A nice
opportunity for carbo-loading the family, while benefiting PA as
well!
Noodles is located at
3425 Vicksburg Lane at Highway 55.

We are working to conclude
the process of gathering opinions from
families with the annual Independent Schools Association of the
Central States (ISACS) satisfaction survey. Providence Academy
undertakes the survey as part of the ISACS accreditation process,
with the desire to let every voice be heard. If you have not
already done so, please return your survey promptly.

The Junior/Senior Prom, held this past Saturday at the Semple
mansion, brought this comment from a mansion staffer: “I can’t
believe how clean these students have left the place!” A
Minneapolis policeman on duty said, “I’ve never seen a group of
students as decorous and well behaved as this. My only job tonight
is to make sure that these kids are safe from others.”
We are not surprised by comments like these.
But we are proud of our kids!

Love
& Logic News for 2008-09
The upcoming school year will provide
parents with a number of opportunities to join parenting discussion groups,
based on the Love & Logic series by Foster and Cline. These books
have been applauded for providing “important concepts and practical solutions to
help children become emotionally, socially and morally healthy.”
Sessions geared toward parents of adolescents and teens will be again be
offered. Also, in response to several requests, two new groups will be added in
2008-09: evening discussions and a discussion group for parents of college
students.
Registration will take place in the fall. Questions about Love & Logic
may be directed to Mrs. Lynne Frederickson at
lynnefrederickson@yahoo.com.

AP Exams
Upper School students who have previously registered for AP Exams will be taking
their exams this week and next. The schedule of exams, location, time, and
other details are included in daily announcements, and were given to each AP
examinee during the pre-administration sessions last week. Any students absent
for AP exams will not be able to re-test and will be assessed the $13 unused
exam fee.
Seniors
Congratulations to our seniors in making their
final college decisions (and deposits) by the May 1st National
Candidate’s Reply Deadline. Since a few were granted extensions on the decision
deadline, look for “senior plans” (known as a matriculation report) in a
subsequent (likely the final) issue of the E-bulletin.
Juniors
College
Entrance Testing – Final ACT & SAT Testing
Opportunities until Fall!
Providence Academy is a test site for the
June 14th ACT exam, but registration is through ACT (not Providence!)
and is on a first-come, first-served basis. Juniors should also take the SAT
exam at least once before senior year. The SAT exam will be administered at
various Twin Cities locations on June 7th. For registration
information, including deadlines, please refer to
www.collegeboard.com
(for the SAT) and/or
www.actstudent.org
(for the ACT). Looking for test prep options? Contact the college counseling
office for suggestions.
College Counseling Meetings and In-Class
Seminars
In addition to individual college
counseling meetings with juniors (and their parents), during the last month of
the school year, the College Counseling Office will offer a final In-Class
Seminar, “College Planning Checklist For Rising Seniors”, to ensure that each
student has a strategic plan in place for applying to colleges in the fall.
Freshmen and Sophomores
Freshmen and sophomores ready to discuss their
future planning for colleges may contact Mrs. Hogan. She will be available to
meet with any interested rising sophomores and juniors about colleges,
extra-curricular activities, college entrance testing, etc. over the summer.
Please stop by or call the college counseling office at (763) 258-5508 to make
an appointment.
